After helping Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team to a pair of conference victories over the weekend, senior Ashley Edmond and junior Dena Ott were honored by the Ohio Valley Conference. Edmond was named adidas OVC Offensive Player of the Week while Ott garnered the adidas OVC Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Colonels won back-to-back matches creating a three match winning streak for the fourth time this season. EKU first defeated Jacksonville State 3-1 before shutting out Tennessee Tech 3-0.

In both matches combined, Edmond averaged 5.14 kills, 5.36 points, and posted a .326 attack percentage. She had 14 kills, only three errors, 19 digs, a block and an ace at Jacksonville State. The Michigan City, Ind., native led all players with 22 kills at Tennessee Tech. The senior made only four errors in 47 attempts for a .383 attack percentage. The 22 kills ties for the most by a Colonel this season.

Ott’s 24 digs in the win over Tennessee Tech were a match-best. She also led all players with 26 kills in a four-set victory at Jacksonville State. In both matches combined, the Wauconda, Ill., native averaged 7.14 digs per set.

Eastern will continue conference play on Friday and face Belmont University in Richmond, Ky. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
