BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Sophomore and Richmond native Jacob Ferris was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Ferris pitched a complete game, 3-hit shutout to lead EKU to a 6-0 win over Norfolk State on Saturday at Earle Combs Stadium.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound, right-hander improved to 2-1 on the season after striking out a career-high 10 batters. He walked three in nine innings of work.
For the season, Ferris has a 3.04 ERA with 30 strike outs in 26 and two-thirds innings. He’s allowed just nine earned runs on 17 hits and has walked only eight batters. Ferris ranks third in the OVC in opposing batting average at .183. He is tied for second in innings pitched and fifth in strike outs.
It is the first career OVC Pitcher of the Week award for Ferris and the first this season by any EKU pitcher.
The Colonels will play at Northern Kentucky on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
