The Eastern Kentucky softball team was recently voted into third place during the OVC preseason poll. Only last season champions. SIU-E and Jacksonville State were picked above the Lady Colonels. The Colonels will face five teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Today the Colonels learned that they will face four preseason Top 25 teams. Two of those teams will at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In just their second game of the season the Lady Colonels will face #3 Alabama. The first game of the season will be on February 5 against Jackson State. The next day after #3 Alabama they will face #23 South Alabama. The Lady Colonels will finish the Sand Dollar Classic vs Lamar on February 8. They will not return to action again until the EKU Invitational on February 21. The invitational will kick off with EKU vs Kent State. Other teams competing at the EKU Invitational will be Western Michigan and Louisville.

The next early season tournament will be the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Lady Colonels will face South Dakota State, Chattanooga, Alabama A&M, Purdue, and Wright State.

The final early season tournament the Lady COlonels will travel to is the UNLV Rebel Classic. In Las Vegas the Lady Colonels will face Houston, UC Santa Barbara, California, UNLV, and Iowa State.

Before OVC play Eastern Kentucky will have one more test in Lexington vs #6 Kentucky.

OVC play will begin in Nashville, Tennessee against Belmont on March 14. The first OVC home series will be against defending champions, SIU-E on March 21. Morehead State will come to Gertude Hood Field on March 28 and 29 for three games.

After that the Lady Colonels will play five games on the road highlighted by a match up vs #13 Tennessee Vols.

The Colonels will come home for four games. Three of those games will be against Tennessee State, the fourth will be a night game against #6 Kentucky.

The final home series will be against Tennessee Tech on April 25 and 26. The final series of the regular season will be in Alabama against Jacksonville State.

The OVC tournament will be May 6-9 at the #1 seed site.
