RICHMOND, Ky – Eastern Kentucky University softball team picked up two wins vs the Dayton Flyers in the EKU home opener on Tuesday afternoon. EKU shut out the Flyers 4-0 and rallied to win game two 5-2 for the sweep.

Eastern Kentucky was led by a stellar pitching performance throughout both games.
Senior right hander Hayley Flynn and junior Alex Sallberg combined for 10 strikeouts and only 8 hits on the day allowing only two earned runs in two games.

In game 1, EKU (14-5) would jump out to a 2-0 lead due to two Dayton (7-8) errors that scored Krislyn Campos from second and on the other error Kayla Joyce from third, after Joyce had already stolen two bases.

Sarah Fobbs would drive in Hannah Clark on a sacrifice bunt to extend it to 3-0. Fobbs would then score after a RBI groundout from Rachel Minogue.

Hayley Flynn and Alex Sallberg would keep up their dominance for the shutout.

In game two, Dayton would take a 2-0 lead but that lead would not last. Kayla Joyce would answere on a two-run double to left center in the bottom of the third that knotted the score at two.

EKU would never look back in the game. In the fourth inning Eastern would add two more runs. The first run came off of a Johnkyria Alston sacrifice bunt and the second run come off a Campos RBI.

EKU would add one more insurance run in the fifth as Minogue scored off a Dayton error.

This will not be the last time EKU and Dayton face off this week. The Colonels travel to Louisville on Friday for the first of four games this weekend at the Louisville Softball Classic at Ulmer Stadium.

EKU will take on Illinois State in Friday’s lone game, before squaring off against Louisville, #2 Michigan and Dayton over the next two days. Friday’s game is scheduled for 12 p.m.
