The Eastern Kentucky softball team upset Jacksonville State 3-2 on Sunday to close out the regular season with a win.
The Colonels earned the five seed and will face Murray State Wednesday in Jacksonville, Alabama in the first round of the OVC tournament. EKU has already beaten Murray State twice this year.
With the victory EKU (28-21, 15-10 OVC) snapped a four-game losing skid while also ending the Gamecocks (39-13, 22-5) 10-game winning streak.
JSU started the game up 1-0 in the second inning after drawing a bases loaded walk.
The Colonels offense would finally come alive in the fourth inning. After Sarah Fobbs and Lauren Mitchell got on base Katie Tackett would tie the game up with a single.
The Colonels would take the lead for good in the sixth inning when Sarah Fobbs would hit a sacrifice fly and Lauren Mitchell would drive in a runner giving the Colonels a 3-1 lead.
EKU would give up a runner in the seventh but hold the Gamecocks rally to win 3-2.
The Maroon Nation Players of the Game are Christina Ciolek and Nicole Heitz who played their last home game of their careers.
