BROOKINGS, S.D. – Aug. 2, 2013 – In the upcoming seasons, Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) football, volleyball and basketball fans will be treated to new LED video displays designed, manufactured and installed in the summer of 2013 to their respective athletic facilities in Richmond, Ky., by Daktronics (Nasdaq – DAKT) of Brookings, S.D.
“The new video boards will greatly enhance the game-day experience for EKU fans,” said EKU President Michael Benson.
The new displays will not only be used for athletic events; the new technology will greatly improve the quality of all university functions, especially commencement.
“All visitors to campus will immediately notice the improved picture and sound quality of these additions,” added Benson.
Roy Kidd Stadium, home of EKU football, will receive three outdoor displays. The Colonels’ main video display will measure approximately 15 feet high by 30 feet wide and will feature a 15HD pixel layout. It is capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays. It can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements.
Found on the main display structure, two auxiliary displays will be placed on either side of a fixed-digit scoreboard. The auxiliary displays and scoreboard will be located directly below the main video display.
The auxiliary displays will each measure approximately 7 feet high by 6 feet wide and will feature 20 millimeter line spacing. These displays will provide the opportunity to showcase sponsors throughout events and provide up-to-the-minute statistics and game information.
Fans can stay in the game as all of these new displays will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility while providing multiple levels of protection from the elements.
For the first time ever, EKU basketball and volleyball fans will enjoy a LED video display in Alumni Coliseum. The display will measure approximately 15 feet high by 26 feet wide and will feature 10 millimeter line spacing. This display will also show one large image to highlight live video and instant replays. It will also be able to show a variety of graphics, animations, advertisements, statistics and scoring information.
Plans to update the displays inside both Roy Kidd Stadium and Alumni Coliseum were something the EKU Department of Athletics had been contemplating for some time. Shortly after Benson was named the new EKU president in April, he visited with Department of Athletics staff members, including EKU Athletic Director Mark Sandy, about purchasing new displays without tapping into their athletic budgets and they found a solution.
“The displays will be paid for with game guarantee revenue and corporate partnership dollars,” said Sandy. “This is a way for our teams, in addition to all the positive things they are currently doing, to contribute to the good of the entire campus community.”
Eastern Kentucky University will also receive two Daktronics custom audio systems. These audio systems will be integrated with the video and scoring system to enhance the game-day atmosphere for both the football stadium and basketball coliseum. The systems provide full-range sound reproduction and deliver clear and intelligible speech. Daktronics audio offers high quality audio systems that can integrate with dynamic displays in indoor and outdoor sport venues.
“We are excited about this opportunity to work with Eastern Kentucky University and assist with their display needs,” said Daryl Mihal, Daktronics sales representative, ”The video display and audio installations will increase the fan experience in both Roy Kidd stadium and Alumni coliseum and enhance the overall game-day experience for Colonel fans.”
In addition to the equipment installation, the Colonels will also receive a bank of hours for the creation of digital content to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services. This content will consist of any mixture of sponsorship messages, crowd prompts, headshots, game opens and venue announcements at the request of the university.
Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
