This off-season, The EKU Athletic Department officially announced who would be filling the coaching vacancy left by Ted Hotaling (Coach, Sullivan is actually taking the top assistant spot, but the whole is being filled by Strege.). Coach H’s successor is Luke Strege, former assistant and Quincy University in Quincy Ill. According to Quincy Universities bio: “Strege has an impressive basketball coaching resume. Prior to coming to Quincy, he served the 2003-04 season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Towson University, a Colonial Athletic Association school in Baltimore, Md. At Towson, Strege was responsible for on- and off-campus recruitment of student-athletes, scouting of future opponents, development of game plans, coordination of team travel, scheduling, monitoring the academic success of student-athletes, coordination of film exchange and video editing and organization of summer basketball camps.” Strege also has experience as a graduate assistant coach at that University down I-65 (WKU), and at the University of Georgia (Which makes me think he may be a art of the Felton Coaching Branch).
Strege is not the only “new” coach on the staff this season. Ryan Wiersma is also joining the coaching staff this season.Wiersma, a former player and gradate of EKU (2004-2009), was a part of the Williams College Coaching staff last season. Weirsma will bring great experience to a young team that has few veteran leaders. He will be a good example of integrity and heart for the organization.
There are also many new additions and transfers to the team that will will break down later. Look forward to seeing those soon.
