Eastern Kentucky University Dy’Shawn Mobley earned both the OVC Offensive Player of the Week along with the OVC Newcomer of the Week after his performance against the Racers of Murray State.
Mobley tied the OVC single-game record with six total touchdowns (5 rushing, 1 receiving), five of which came in the second half, as Eastern Kentucky won its ninth game of the season in coming from behind to defeat Murray State 43-36.
Mobley finished the game with 324 all-purpose yards, the fourth-most by a FCS player this season. The transfer from Kentucky carried the ball 40 times for 224 yards (5.6 ypc) and five touchdowns (also tying the OVC record in that category), which is tied for the most by a FCS player this season.
Mobley, a candidate for the Walter Payton Award, scored on runs of 2, 1, 8, 6 and 1 yards with the final two rushing scores coming in the fourth quarter as EKU overcame an early 20-point deficit to go ahead for good. In the third quarter he also caught a screen pass and went 72 yards for a touchdown (the longest play from scrimmage by an EKU player this season); Mobley finished with four catches for 100 yards.
His six total touchdowns and 36 points tied the OVC record also held by Murray State’s Derrick Cullors (1995 vs. Morehead State). His five rushing touchdowns tied the OVC record held four other individuals (JSU’s DaMarcus James, TTU’s Derek White, APSU’s Daniel Williams and YSU’s Paris Wicks). Mobley currently ranks fourth nationally (and third in OVC single-season history) with 19 rushing touchdowns, while also ranking fifth in scoring (10.9 points/game), 10th in rushing yards/game (124.7) and 16th in all-purpose yards (148.36/game).
This marks the second time this season he has been named OVC Offensive Player of the Week and the fourth time for the Newcomer of the Week.
