Late Goals Breaks EKU Soccer Record

RICHMOND, KY – Three late goals send Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels soccer team past Eastern Illinois and into the EKU record book. Eastern Kentucky bear Eastern Illinois 4-0 to break the record for most wins in a season for EKU.

The two Eastern schools appeared to be heading into the half tied at 0-0 but Senior Cassie Smith had other ideas. She put a cross from Tara Claus into the back of the net in the 45th minute.

The second half the Colonels would defend their 1-0 lead up until the 78th minute when Senior Mikayla Brillion put in a from 15 yards out.

Freshman Kayla Childs decided that 2 goals was not enough and put her third goal of the season for the third goal of the game.

The highlight of the game in the 85th minute. Tara Claus made the goal of the season from a corner kick. Tara Claus took the corner herself and put it in the net to give EKU the 4-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Anna Hall earned her eighth shutout of the season.

The Lady Colonels return to action on Sunday when they host SIU-E at EKU Soccer Stadium at 1 pm.
