BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Five football players picked up All-Ohio Valley Conference honors on Monday.
Defensive lineman Aaron Patrick and defensive back Leodis Moore III were first-team All-OVC picks. Running back L.J. Scott, offensive lineman Cameron Kowalewski and defensive back Cornelius Floyd earned second-team honors.
The Colonels finished the season with a 7-4 record and went 5-2 in OVC play. Eastern just missed out on earning its 22nd playoff appearance.
Patrick, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound redshirt junior, played in all 11 games and finished with 53 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries. The Dayton, Ohio native finished second in the conference in sacks (0.68/game) and tied for sixth in tackles for a loss (1.09/game).
Moore, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound redshirt junior, had 48 tackles, six tackles for a loss, 0.5 sacks, five interceptions, five pass break-ups, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick. The Indianapolis, Indiana native led the OVC, and ranked eighth in the nation, with 0.45 interceptions per game. He tied for sixth with 0.91 passes defended per game. Moore was chosen as the OVC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, including after intercepting two passes and returning one 35 yards for a touchdown at Austin Peay.
Scott, a 6-foot, 217-pound redshirt senior, led the Colonels and ranked third in the OVC with 780 rushing yards. He scored eight rushing touchdowns and averaged 5.2 yards per carry, ranking second and fourth in the league respectively in those categories. The Marion, Ohio native was chosen as the Madness Ohio Valley Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 86 yards and scoring two touchdowns in the Colonels’ season-opening win. He had a career-best 151 yards in a victory over Eastern Illinois.
Kowalewski, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound redshirt senior, started all 11 games at left tackle this season. He anchored an offensive line that allowed the Colonels to average 204 rushing yards per game, which ranked second in the conference. The Dallas, Georgia native helped EKU total 2,246 rushing yards, its highest total since 2014.
Floyd, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound redshirt senior, finished the season with 51 tackles, four interceptions, six pass break-ups and one fumble recovery. The Miami, Florida native was third in the OVC with 0.4 interceptions per game and fifth in the league with 1.00 passes defended per game. He also ranked 17th in the nation in interceptions per game. Floyd was chosen as the Madness Ohio Valley Defensive Player of the Week after he had an interception, six tackles and two pass break-ups against Eastern Illinois. He intercepted two passes against Southeast Missouri, becoming the first Colonel since 2014 to pick off two passes in a game.
The Eastern Kentucky University football program features the “Best Tradition In FCS Football”, having won two national championships, 21 conference titles and made 21 playoff appearances. No other FCS team has won at least two FCS national titles and 20 or more conference championships. EKU has had 66 All-America selections and 33 NFL draft picks.
