Eastern Kentucky (20-14, 8-4) and Morehead State (7-23-1, 3-9) would finally meet in softball for the 2014 season. The match was rained out originally and rescheduled for today as a doubleheader.
Eastern Kentucky has beaten Morehead State seven straight times after sweeping the Eagles today on the road.
In game one, Eastern Kentucky jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kayla Joyce scored on a wild pitch. Kayla Joyce would make it 2-0 in the second inning with a RBI double scoring Lauren Mitchell.
Eastern Kentucky wouldn’t score again until Krislyn Campos hit a two run double to give the Colonels a 4-0 edge in the fourth.
Leanna Pittsenbarger dominated Morehead State holding the Eagles to just two hits while collecting seven strikeouts. With the shutout, Leanna Pittsenbarger broke the single season shutout record for a Colonel pitcher notching her 13th of the season against Morehead State. The old EKU record was held by Jonelle Csora from 2001.
Game two would start the same way as game one did for the Colonels as Christina Ciolek would hit a single to center field scoring Krislyn Campos to get the Colonels on top 1-0 early.
The Colonels would add on two runs off a Christina Ciolek double and Katie Tackett single to make it 3-0 EKU. Christina Ciolek would add another run on to the scoreboard in the fourth inning to give EKU a 4-0 lead.
A Lauren Mitchell ground out in the fifth inning would give the Colonels a 5-0 lead.
