NASHVILLE, Tenn – Eastern Kentucky started Ohio Valley Conference play in a perfect way beating Tennessee State 10-2.
It would take a few innings for the Colonels (18-6, 3-0 OVC) bats to come alive but when they did they exploded once again.
The scoring started with a double from Rachel Minogue scoring Hannah Clark. Amber Murray would one up Minogue by hitting a triple making it 3-0. Kayla Joyce would hit out a single scoring Murray making it 4-0. Sarah Fobbs would score Joyce too make it 5-0.
Tennessee State (7-20, 0-3 OVC) would rally with two runs of their own in the fourth. That would be all of the scoring for the Tigers.
Sarah Jackson would hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 6-2 EKU.
Eastern would get the bases loaded in the sixth so Rachel Minogue cloud draw a RBI walk.
In the seventh, Paige Murphy would hit a single bringing in 2 runs and Sarah Fobbs would triple bringing Murphy in and giving EKU a 10-2 win.
The EKU pitching rotation shut down any offensive attempt for TSU. EKU allowed just four hits in the win with four strikeouts.
The Colonels outscored the Tigers 32-5 in the three-game series to open OVC play.
