CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. — The first place Southeast Missouri Redhawks, paced by quarterback Matt Scheible and tailback Henry Harris, blasted the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, 40-21, Saturday afternoon at Houck Stadium.
Scheible threw three touchdowns and Harris ran for one score and caught a TD pass in keeping SEMO perfect in the Ohio Valley Conference at 6-0 with the win. The Colonels drop to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the OVC.
The Redhawks scored quickly, putting 20 points up just 13 minutes into the game to go up 20-0 with 2:41 left in the first quarter. Eastern responded with 14 second quarter points on a one-yard run by tailback H.B. Banjoman which culminated a 14-play, 78-yard drive and a 38-yard pass from quarterback T.J. Pryor to receiver Orlandus Harris that made it 20-14 at the break.
Eastern’s only score of the second half was a 98-yard kickoff return by Ta’Ta’ Caldwell in the third quarter pulling EKU to within 30-21. The Redhawks put the game away with the final 10 points on a 23-yard TD reception by tailback Nathan Grass and a 30-yard field goal by Drew Goldbach with only 4:54 to go.
For EKU, Pryor was the team’s top rusher with 28 yards, while freshman QB Jacob Russell had 27 yards. Pryor hit 11-20 for 139 yards for one TD and three interceptions. Harris topped EKU receivers with seven catches for 112 yards.
Scheible was 9-10 for 177 yards through the air. Harris picked up 112 yards on the ground for the Redhawks, now 7-1.
Eastern hosts Murray State for Homecoming Oct. 30, while SEMO entertains UT Martin in its Homecoming contest Saturday.
