NASHVILLE – The Eastern Kentucky Colonels survived a 2nd quarter comeback by the Tigers of Tennessee State to pick up their 8th win of the season. The Colonels jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead in the first quarter but the Tigers came back with 21 unanswered points to take a 21-17 lead at half time.
The Colonels scored early in the first quarter with a 3-yard run by Dy’Shawn Mobley. The Colonels also scored on a 43-yard field goal by Andrew Lloyd. The Colonels scoring in the first quarter would continue with a Mobley a 33-yard scoring run. The Tiger come back however would start on the following kickoff.
Darion Hall would field the kickoff in the end zone and would return the kick for the Tigers first score of the game. The Tigers would add two more touchdowns before the half was over to take a 21-17 lead into halftime.
The Colonels would open up the second half 18 straight points including scoring on 36-yard run by McClain which put the Colonels up for good 27-21.
The Colonels would also score again in the third quarter on a 33-yard fumble recovery by Devin Borders. The Colonels would add the 2-point conversion with McClain rushing in to put the Colonels up 35-21.
The Colonels used the rushing game to get back in control of the game. The Colonels rushed for 191 yards in the second half led by Mobley who had 100 yards rushing in the second half, ended the game with 139 yards. Mobley’s performance pushed him over 1,000 yards for the season.
McClain also added 139 yards rushing, 86 coming in the second half. McClain would score twice in the second half rushing and would add one in the air hitting Jeff Glover on an 8-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
