After a sluggish start in the first half, the Colonels used a strong second half to run to 5-0 with a 31-0 shutout of the Governors of Austin Peay State University.
The Colonels had a balanced running attack with three players getting rushing touchdowns but no one over 100-yards rushing. Dy’Shawn Mobley led the Colonel running attach with 55 yards on 10 carries while J.J. Jude added 44 yards on 10 carries.
Andrew Lloyd put the Colonels on the board near the end of the first quarter on a 35-yard field goal. After the teams exchanged possessions, the Colonels took over at the APSU 15 yard line after an interception by Brandon Stanley with 39 seconds to go in the first quarter. Colonel running back Channing Fugate rushed for 4 yards to with only seconds to go but the Colonels rushed to get another play in before the quarter expired. Fugate took the handoff again and punched it into the end zone, diving into the end zone for the Colonels first touchdown.
The Colonels added another touchdown in the first half late in the second quarter as Jeff Glover pulled down a 42-yard pass from Bennie Coney as time expired.
The Colonels would add two more touchdowns in the second half, one on a Jared McClain 1-yard run early in the third quarter and then on a Mobley 6-yard run four minutes later.
The Colonel defense held the Governors to 105-yards rushing, 74 of those coming in the second half and 54 of those coming on one drive that ended on the EKU 1. That drive was the closest Governors would come to scoring but turned the ball over to the Colonels on downs.
