RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky’s Dy’Shawn Mobley was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches and media relations contacts. Four Colonels were chosen Preseason All-OVC and EKU was picked to place third in the preseason poll.

Along with Mobley, offensive guard Trey Shelton and offensive tackle Brett Eyckmans were selected to the Preseason All-OVC team on the offensive side. Defensive back Stanley Absanon was a Preseason All-OVC selection on defense.

Mobley, a preseason All-American by STATS and one of 22 players from across the nation on the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List, was the OVC Offensive Player of the Year last season and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.

He helped the Colonels to a 9-4 record by rushing for 1,491 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns. The Powell, Tennessee native ranked sixth in the nation in touchdowns, 12th in yards and 14th in yards per game (114.7).

Eyckmans and Shelton anchored an offensive line that paved the way for Mobley and EKU’s running attack to churn out 220.5 yards per game on the ground last season. Eyckmans, a 6-foot-4 290-pound senior from Lexington, Kentucky, was a first team All-OVC honoree last season and a third team preseason All-American by STATS this season. Shelton, a 6-foot-4 300-pound senior from Chester, Virginia, garnered second team All-OVC honors a year ago.

Absanon, a 5-foot-11 185-pound senior from Auburndale, Florida, tied for the team lead with four interceptions in 2014, broke up a team-best nine pass attempts and totaled 56 tackles in 2014.

EKU totaled 106 points in the preseason OVC poll, one less than second place Eastern Illinois (107). Jacksonville State (128) earned 16 first-place votes and is the preseason favorite. Eastern Kentucky garnered the only other two first-place votes.

Tennessee-Martin (78) was fourth and Tennessee State (66) came in fifth. Southeast Missouri (63) and Tennessee Tech (45) were sixth and seventh respectively. Murray State (38) and Austin Peay (17) rounded out the poll in eighth and ninth.
