Junior Stanley Absanon was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Colonels to a win over Miami (Ohio) Saturday.
Absanon became the first Eastern Kentucky player to have two interceptions in the same game in almost two years as he helped the Colonels to a victory over Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) foe Miami (Ohio). It was the first victory over a FBS opponent for EKU since 1985, snapping an 18-game losing streak to higher division foes. The junior made a jarring hit in the end zone on a 3rd-and-4 play in the third quarter that prevented the RedHawks from scoring a touchdown (MU had to settle for a field goal). Three minutes later Absanon picked off his first pass of the day and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 10 with 3:53 to play in the third quarter. He then sealed the game by making an interception at midfield with less than one minute to play in the game. Absanon finished the game with six tackles and three pass breakups to go along with his two interceptions. He currently ranks second nationally in interceptions.
