BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Junior guard A’Queen Hayes was chosen first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference, the league announced on Tuesday. Hayes was also chosen to the OVC All-Newcomer Team.
Hayes was chosen as the OVC Newcomer of the Week nine times and the OVC Player of the Week once during the 2017-18 season. She led the team in scoring (14.8 ppg), rebounds (8.2 rpg), assists (3.1 apg) and steals (1.6 spg).
The Horn Lake, Mississippi native finished the season eighth in the OVC in scoring, third in rebounding, fourth in minutes played (35.0/g), 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1), 11th in assists, 12th in steals, first in offensive rebounds (3.4/g) and eighth in defensive rebounds (4.8/g).
Hayes shot 42 percent from the field. She scored in double figures in all but four games (23-of-27). Hayes scored 20 or more points six times. She posted a double-double on seven occasions.
The transfer from Mississippi scored a season-best 26 points against Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Jan. 4. She grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds against Eastern Illinois on Jan. 6. Hayes set a season-high for assists with six against UNC Greensboro on Nov. 18.
Hayes was one of 11 players chosen to the All-OVC first team and one of five members of the OVC All-Newcomer Team.
