Colonel volleyball team finishes season at 13-19
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Despite winning the first set, the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team could not hold off No. 1 Austin Peay in the semifinal match of the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Friday night at the Dunn Center, falling in four sets.
The Colonels lost by scores of 25-19, 12-25, 14-25 and 12-25.
EKU jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first set after a kill from Kaylin Johnson and never looked back. The Gov’s tied the set but never led. At the 21-16 mark the Colonels took their largest lead of the set off of a kill from Celina Sanks. Austin Peay responded with a kill and a block, 21-18, but Eastern took four of the next five points to close the set, 25-19, and take the 1-0 advantage.
Sanks led the team with 18 kills and 13 digs. Cassie Knutson contributed a team second-best eight kills, she also added 15 assists. Maria Ferragonio led the Colonels with 16 assists.
Brooke Moore led the charge for the Governors with a match-best 22 kills and 18 digs.
Eastern Kentucky finishes the season with a 13-19 record.
