BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University senior women’s basketball player Marie Carpenter has been voted first team All-Ohio Valley Conference, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Carpenter is the first Lady Colonel to earn first team All-OVC honors since Crystal Jones did so in 2007-08.

The Nashville native currently ranks second in the OVC and 22nd in the country in scoring at 21.5 points-per-game. She has scored 581 points on the year, which is the second-most by a Lady Colonel in a single season. On Nov. 14, Carpenter tied the EKU record for three-pointers in a game with nine in a career-best 41-point performance versus Alabama A&M.

Carpenter also ranks second in the OVC in free throw percentage (84.7), fourth in three-point field goal percentage (40.8) and first in minutes played-per-game (38.1).

Tuesday’s honor is the culmination of a stellar career for Carpenter at EKU. She holds the Lady Colonel record for career three-pointers (200) and she currently ranks sixth on EKU’s all-time scoring list (1,572 points). She needs 16 more points to break into the school’s top-five list.

UT Martin guard Heather Butler was voted the 2013-14 OVC Player of the Year by league head coaches and sports information directors, while Jacksonville State head coach Rick Pietri was tabbed the OVC Coach of the Year.

Carpenter will lead the No. 5 seed Lady Colonels (15-12, 9-7 OVC) against No. 8 Eastern Illinois (12-15, 7-9 OVC) in the first round of the OVC Tournament on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
