Softball Races Past Murray State

Leanna Pittsenbarger would combine for 10.1 innings pitched and 15 strikeouts on Friday against Murray State.

Eastern Kentucky Colonels beat Murray State Racers twice on Good Friday.

Eastern Kentucky (24-15, 12-5 OVC) was led by Leanna Pittsenbarger in both games, although she would come in for relief in game two.

In game one, Leanna Pittsenbarger would hold the Racers (24-20, 11-7  OVC) to just three hits while striking out 13 Racers.

Eastern Kentucky would do all of their scoring in the third and sixth innings. The Colonels would score three runs in the third and add four insurance runs in the sixth inning.

Eastern Kentucky would go on to win 7-0.

In game two Murray State would take a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning but Eastern Kentucky would bring in water to put out the Racers fire and Pittsenbarger would come on to close out the inning.

The Colonels quickly responded when Katie Tackett puts down a RBI single to bring it to 2-1. Shannon McQueen would make the last out of the fourth when she was just inches away from stealing home plate to tie the game up.

In the fifth inning the Colonels would bring in the game tying run with a Nicole Heitz RBI single.

The sixth inning would be when the Colonels take the lead for good. Lauren Mitchell would hit a ball to deep center field and would score two runs on the double giving the Colonels a 4-2 lead.

The Colonels would finish the sweep in the seventh inning and take game two 4-2.
