Last night was a disappointment. Despite starting with optimism, our team left the match feeling humbled. The good news is that it was only the first match, so it's time to move on and focus on the next one as we travel to east Tennessee to face the Bucs.
The bad news is that our road ahead is tough. ETSU also started their season with a loss when they were beaten 1-0 by UAB in Birmingham. ETSU was predicted to finish 3rd in the SoCon, and they have 9 returning starters from a team that went 11-3-5 (6-1-2).
In the all-time series, EKU leads ETSU 2-1. While ETSU won the first match 4-2, we have won the 2 most recent matches, both with a score of 3-1. The last time we met on the pitch was in 2018.
The key to the upcoming match is the defense and the midfield. When the midfield performs well, the defense will naturally appear stronger. While possession stats are not kept in college matches, if they were, Miami's possession would have been around 70% to ETSU's 30%. No matter how competent your defense is, defending for 70% of 90 minutes will make them look ineffective.

Re: ETSU
I think it was 24 shots for ETSU and 10 for EKU!
Like I have said in the past this happening on a regular basis!
If we keep up this pace we will be out shot more than a 100 shots in the non conference matches! Maybe even more!
Apparently this coach and Jake Johnson are buddies! Very week defense!
