Tennessee State @ EKU

Post by Westside »

So the Tennessee State Tigers will be rolling into town this Saturday October 7. Game time is set for 6 pm. The Tigers come into the game with a 3-2 record and riding a two game losing streak. Their wins have come against Georgia State (17-10), Jackson State (17-15), and Florida A&M (24-13). Their losses have come against UT Martin (16-31) and Eastern Illinois (16-19) in double overtime. The Colonels lead the all-time series 23-6. The Colonels lead the series this century 13-4. Tennessee State won last year's game 28-35. The Colonels last defeated the Tigers in 2015 (45-21).

What do the Colonels need to do to get the victory? What are your thoughts and predictions?

...the answer to victory is the same as always-execution.

Doesn't TSU have a high-profile transfer at QB ? Can't remember who it
is; don't bother to look it up, but if anyone knows-or if I just imagined it-
let me know.

Big Game...

I'm not sure I'd call him a high profile QB. His name is Treon Harris. He's a transfer from Florida. He's pretty good when he's on target and he can run the ball pretty well when he needs to. But he has his struggles. When he struggles, he seems to get bogged down and frustrated. Which can create poor decision making on the field. Now, when he's on his game, he can be dangerous. But that's been absent in the past two games. He was injured late in the EIU game and didn't play after that injury. We've not heard a report just yet regarding his status for the EKU game. However, we have a back-up QB that is pretty good and is stronger in my opinion than Treon Harris. His name is Michael Hughes. He's a sophomore out of Nashville. He's taller and bigger than Harris, but not quite as mobile. He too can be suspect in his reads. But many believe he just needs more game experience.

This should be an interesting game for both teams. If TSU plays the way it has in the past two games, I suspect EKU will win. I know people question this type of comment, but when I say TSU literally beat themselves in the UTM and EIU games, they really did. TSU simply self-destructed in both games with poor execution and very stupid penalties. The EIU game in particular was painful to watch. We really didn't know what we were looking at the entire game. It was really that bad. If we bring that team to Richmond, we will go home with another "L". If we can bring the team that beat GA State and FAMU (while we beat J-State, that game wasn't pretty either), we'll stand a greater chance of getting our first conference win on the season and another elusive win over EKU... 8-)

I'm hoping to see a really good game from both teams. After TSU, you guys are always my favorite OVC football team. I hope both of our programs can find glory again. While I commend JxSU, I'm tired of their dominance in the conference and the parity among the other schools.... It's time for TSU and EKU to step it up.

Amen, I'm over Jax walking in and taking over, but in their defense like the great Ric Flair says "To be the man, you gotta beat the man" and no one has done it. It sounds like TSU has mirrored EKU so far. Impressive week one and two vs WKU and UK, then pulling a win out vs Tech while looking less than impressive, and then getting smoked at SEMO, no one really knows what we have either right now. Have a safe trip in, wish the band was coming with you.

Good to hear from you my friend. Been a whole year. I did listen to the last quarter of your game against Martin and I understand what you are saying. Pass Interference on the goal line killed you guys. IF We can field the tam that played the first two games I think we take the win. If the team that has played he last two game s shows up it could be a long night for the Colonels. Interesting, (to me anyway). Early line has EKU a 2 1/2 point favorite. Guess we will have to wait and see. Hope all those attending have a safe trip up. Nothing personal but I hope it is also a long trip back Nashville for the Big Blue Tigers. :mrgreen:

If the Colonels can get the win this weekend I will feel much better about things. Tennessee State is a pretty good team, but once again, I'm nervous about this game.

Running game is awful and passing game is boarder line decent. 1 WR has scored a TD in meaningful mins- this season will be a disaster. We are not good enough to beat teams passing every down. Just not fellas - sad to have all these good RB's and put up 11yds rushing against semo. Embarrassing
