Beat 2 ranked teams, don’t think the OVC ever had 2 ranked teams together.

If I am not badly mistaken, in 1979 both Murray and EKU were ranked. Lehigh beat Murray in the semis and lost to us in the National Championship game. Murray had beaten us in the regular season.

Re: Austin Peay
OVC days, top 20 teams?
Jax State
Murray in 90s
Tenn St. in 90s
EIU with Romo
UTM for a few years?
APSU for a few years
Are we thinking the OVC is better than our current conference

Re: Austin Peay
I think the UAC is a much better conference than the OVC! Now and back in the day.
When WKU, Middle Tennessee, Murray and EKU were in the OVC, that was the best conference (years) we ever played in! That was a really good bunch of teams in the OVC!
Sadly that time was short lived! Those teams were very good and outside the top 25 or 30 teams in the country we all could be competitive.

Agreed, after 2000 that changed. It’s now good competition every game, and it’s nationwide.EKULFan wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 8:13 pm I think the UAC is a much better conference than the OVC! Now and back in the day.

Re: Austin Peay
On the second pass the check down in the route was the RB. If the QB throws it to him it’s a 15 yard gain minimum. Unfortunately the QB has reads and sometimes he makes the wrong one. Parker was very good at not making the wrong one, Morrissey, not so much.

ACU beats Tarleton and wins the UAC.

Re: Austin Peay
...great win over Peay in Clarksville.
It would be easy to play the "so-what" card and remind everyone of the long-ago
20+ consecutive wins over this program.
But, it's easy to forget nothing lasts forever, specifically-winning and losing.
We were on the cusp of a 3-game consecutive losing streak to Peay-were trailing
and frankly, being outplayed.
The players/coaches...Team...got it together and won a very hard-fought game
in OT on the road against a program that likely highlights playing us every season.
A fine win, no apologies or no qualification.
Go Colonels !!!

A few thoughts:
-We can criticize the actual XO coaching all we want, but these players never quit on the staff or each other. I'm not saying I'm a full-fledged Walt Wells believer, but that's worth...something. Great win despite some mistakes early.
-Can someone who goes to the coaches show please ask Walt why he didn't take the clock all the way down before calling the TO final to the play where we tied it up? It just doesn't make any sense to leave time to have to kick the ball off before the end of regulation. Only bad things can result from that.
-For that matter, I'd have probably taken the ten second runoff with about a minute left, but that one is a judgement call.
-I'm always thinking about ways to build up excitement, and with Peay being the closest thing to a rivalry we have left, perhaps we should sell it as such. Get a quirky trophy. Give the series a nickname. Sure, "231 miles of moderate dislike" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as what WKU and MTSU have concocted, but we can come up with something for sure.
Regardless...Roll Kerns! Let's get this playoff bid and win a game for the first time in 30 years!
